Whistlers A remain in a strong position at the helm of the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored senior leagues with just six fixtures remaining.
They maintained their two point lead following a strong 8-2 winner over bottom placed side Ravenscroft Panthers A.
Joshua Stacey is third in the division one averages and he made it 15 consecutive singles wins courtesy of a fifth straight unbeaten evening of singles action. He defeated Barnaby Groves, Nye Matthew, and 2nd Division reserve Ben Foote without dropping a set.
Matthew Casey and Joseph Bourgaize each earned wins over Matthew and Foote, while combined in the doubles to dispatch Matthew and Groves in four sets. Groves played well in the fixture and earned a straight sets win over Casey and a five sets win over Bourgaize, which prevented the whitewash.
Whistlers B maintained their chase of the league leaders, courtesy of a solid 7-3 win over fourth placed Lions B.
Averages leader Lawrence Stacey made it 21 singles wins in a row following another strong night. He beat Phil Ogier and Jamie Ferbrache in four sets and Steve Ozanne in straight sets, in addition to winning the doubles alongside Oskar Cleal over Ferbrache and Ozanne in four sets.
Cleal himself had a super evening as he beat Ferbrache in four sets and Ozanne in straight sets, whilst Dawn Morgan earned an excellent straight sets victory over Ogier to extend the margin of victory for her side. Ferbrache and Ozanne each defeated Morgan in singles action, whilst Ogier came through a five set battle with Cleal in the final match of the evening.
Third placed Lions C kept themselves in the running with a narrow 6-4 win over sixth placed side, Lions A.
Ryan Bichard was the key player in this fixture as he defeated Joshua Butler, Liam Robilliard and Sam Clark, for the loss of single sets to Butler and Clark in the process. Dan Collenette added important wins over Robilliard in straight sets and Clark in five sets, while it was reserve Ellis Tomlin that picked up the vital sixth rubber when he overcame Clark in straight sets.
For the beaten Lions side, Butler defeated Collenette in four sets and Tomlin in straight sets, whilst Robilliard defeated Tomlin in four sets. Butler and Robilliard combined to defeat Bichard and Collenette in four sets in the doubles clash.
Lions D moved into joint fourth following a strong 7-3 win over a seventh placed Lions E side missing star player Ben Foss. Jez Powell, Craig Dunning and 2nd Division reserve Cameron Powell all earned singles wins over Charlotte Casey and reserve Ollie Sparkes to seal the points. Powell and Dunning further teamed to win the doubles clash against Matthew Stubbington and Casey in four sets.
Despite the defeat, Stubbington had an excellent evening which saw him win all of his singles matches. His best win came over Powell in the match opener, where he overcame a 2-0 deficit to edge past in the final three sets by the scores of 11-9, 13-11, 12-10. His other wins were in straight sets.
Division 2
Lions F maintained their slender single point advantage at the top after they defeated ninth placed side Lions I 8-2 this week. Averages leader Caden Brouard’s return to action in 2025 was successful as it saw him unbeaten. He beat Luke Evans, Andy Ozanne, and reserve Alexis Aquino without dropping a set.
James Crocker added wins over Evans and Aquino, whilst Jonah Ingrouille defeated Ozanne and Aquino. The doubles was won by Brouard and Crocker over Evans and Ozanne in straight sets. Ozanne secured a super four sets win over Crocker, whilst Evans beat Ingrouille in straight sets.
Division 3
Ravenscroft Panthers D made it 21 wins out of 21 following a 7-3 victory over Whistlers G this week. Micah Cohen and Shaun Mosley each beat Ian Fitchet, Shane Cotter and Ken Falla in singles action, without dropping any sets. They also teamed to win the doubles over Falla and Cotter in straight sets.
The whitewash was prevented due to each Whistlers player defeating 4th Division reserve Olivia Gilbert.
Division 4
The top of the table clash ended in a 7-3 victory for the youthful title chasers Ravenscroft Panthers G over league leaders Lions K and reduces their lead at the top to just two points.
There is all to play for between now and the end of the season, as the sides are due to meet in the final match of the season.
The defeat for the Lions side was their first of the season so far and it was young Thea Cummins that stole the show. She earned an excellent five set win over Rolands Tracums, as well as defeating Val Guilbert in four sets and Diane Le Page in straight sets.
Olivia Gilbert edged past Guilbert in five sets and also beat Le Page in four sets, whilst Isla Bretel earned an important four sets win over Le Page. The doubles was won impressively in straight sets by Bretel and Gilbert over Tracums and Guilbert. Tracums defeated both Gilbert and Bretel in five sets, while Guilbert added a straight sets win over Bretel.
