Whistlers A are still two points clear at the top of Division One of the Doric Insurance Senior Leagues with yet another 6-4 win.

It was their sixth consecutive win by this score, this time against sixth-placed Lions A.

Joshua Stacey continues to lead his team strongly and was unbeaten again. He beat Joshua Butler, Liam Robilliard and Sam Clark in singles action, dropping just single sets to Butler and Robilliard in the process. He also combined with Matthew Casey to win the pivotal doubles clash over Butler and Clark in five sets, in a match where they trailed 2-1. They edged through the deciding fifth end 12-10.

Casey was the player to secure the other rubbers courtesy of a strong four set win over Robilliard to compliment his straight sets win over Clark in the match opener. All of the Lions players picked up wins over 2nd Division reserve Kennedy Chepkor, while Butler also dispatched Casey in straight sets in the final match of the night.

Whistlers B remain hot on the tails of the league leaders and picked up a fine 9-1 win over a fifth placed Lions D side missing Paul Hainsworth. Averages leader Lawrence Stacey has not lost a singles match locally since mid-November and he continued this fine run courtesy of singles wins over Jez Powell, Craig Dunning and reserve Mark Fenwick, dropping ends during four sets wins over both Powell and Dunning.

Dawn Morgan also showed strong form as she too won all three of her singles rubbers. Her closest match came against Dunning. Despite Morgan winning the first two sets comfortably, Dunning fought back and forced a deciding end, in which Morgan just about got through 15-13. Her other wins came against Powell in four sets and Fenwick in straight sets.

The Whistlers pair combined to defeat Powell and Dunning in a close straight sets double encounter, whilst Oskar Cleal also played well and earned matching four set wins over both Dunning and Fenwick. Powell prevented the whitewash due to his four sets win over Cleal.

The battle between third placed Lions C and Lions B in fourth ended as a 5-5 stalemate, incredibly making it four draws in a row for the C side. Phil Ogier from Lions B was the player of the match as he was unbeaten in singles action. His toughest test came against Ryan Bichard, with the younger player firing into a 2-0 lead. The third set was crucial and it saw Ogier edge past 14-12. From here he went from strength to strength and took the final two sets by matching 11-6 scores. His other wins came over Dan Collenette and reserve Ollie Sparkes in straight sets.

Jamie Ferbrache and Steve Ozanne each added wins over Sparkes to secure the point. Bichard and Collenette each earned singles wins over Ferbrache and Ozanne, whilst they also teamed up to win the key doubles clash against Ogier and Ozanne 12-10 in the decisive fifth set.

Bottom placed side Ravenscroft Panthers A are finally off the mark and they earned themselves a super 7-3 win over a seventh placed Lions E side missing their captain Ben Foss.

Nye Matthew was the player of the match as he experienced an unbeaten evening for the first time this season. He beat Matthew Stubbington in four sets, reserve James Crocker also in four and Charlotte Casey in straight sets. Barney Groves added wins over Casey in four sets and Crocker in five sets, whilst Andy Gill beat Crocker in straight sets.

The doubles was won by Groves and Gill over Stubbington and Casey in four sets. For the beaten Lions side, Stubbington beat Gill and Groves in four sets, whilst Casey earned an excellent five sets win over Gill.

Division 2

Lions F remain top by a single point. They were 7-3 winners over Whistlers E in the fixture scheduled for this week when it was re-arranged and contested prior to Christmas. In that fixture, averages leader Caden Brouard was unbeaten, and this included an excellent five sets win over Mark Pipet, who occupies second position in the averages. His other wins came over Matthew Board and Darren Sarre.

James Crocker and Jonah Ingrouille both added wins over Board and Sarre to secure the win. Pipet beat Crocker in five sets and Ingrouille in straight sets and also combined with Board to secure a tight five set doubles win over Brouard and Crocker.

Division 3

Ravenscroft Panthers D remain nine points clear and are potentially just a few weeks away from already securing the title. They were 8-2 winners over St Pauls B this week.

Micah Cohen and Shaun Mosley were unbeaten with singles wins over Rob Vile, John Wills and Brian Le Cras. They also won the doubles against Vile and Wills in straight sets. Reserve Olivia Gilbert added a four sets win over Le Cras, however she was beaten by Wills in straight sets and 17-15 in the deciding fifth end by Vile.

Division 4

Lions K hold a four point lead at the top and were 7-3 winners over Bribar B this week. Val Guilbert was unbeaten in singles action thanks to victories over Daniel Martin, Sam Cox and reserve Jovy Aquino.

Diane Le Page and reserve Lionel Jones each added wins over Cox and Aquino to secure the win. For the Bribar side, Martin impressed with wins over Jones in straight sets and Le Page in four sets, whilst he also teamed with Cox to earn a nice four set doubles win over Guilbert and Le Page.
