Ben Acey is congratulated after scoring his first for Farnborough. Still from Farnborugh FC TV.

Ben Acey’s inswinging corner got him on the scoresheet for the first time at Farnborough.

Acey, who came through the ranks at North before playing for Guernsey FC  and at the Bristol City Academy, signed for Farnborough in October.

He’s made 11 appearances so far for the side who play in the Vanarama National League South, starting twice including against Weymouth on the weekend.

The clock had ticked past 10 minutes when the 21 year old scored an unexpected opener.

His side went on to win 3-0, although manager Spencer Day felt his players had not performed to their potential.

Acey is coming back from a hamstring injury and took up a central midfield role at the Saunders Transport Community Stadium.

“He’s got a lot of Step 3 clubs after him and I wanted to see what he could do,” Day said of Acey after the match.

“He started on merit, he did really well at Truro for 20 minutes. He’s a lad that’s come out of Bristol City. Yes, of course, he’s very young. He passed the ball really well.”

Farnbrough sit 11th in the table.
