A superbike champion is among a number of racing stars set to visit the island this summer to mark the 25th anniversary of the Jersey International Motoring Festival.

Leon Haslam, who was the British Superbike Champion in 2018 and has won the World Superbike race five times, will visit Jersey during the festival from 5 to 8 June.

Spectators will get the chance to witness Haslam riding one of the ‘Airwaves’ Ducati 999R superbikes that he raced during his British Superbike Championship campaigns in 2006 and 2007, when he secured runner-up and third-place finishes respectively.

Jersey International Motoring Festival is marking its 25th anniversary this year with visits from renowned figures from the racing world.

Among them are John and Rick Hackett of JHP Racing, whose expertise has supported numerous British and World Superbike teams and riders.

They will be showcasing a “stunning” collection of historically significant motorcycles for spectators to watch up close – such as the 1994 Ducati 916 Strada, a 1992/93 Ducati 888 Corse, and a Seeley Matchless G50.

All of these vehicles, as well as an “impressive” range of rare and local Ducati superbikes, will take part in demonstrations on the evenings of Thursday 5 and Friday 6 June on Victoria Avenue.

A static display will then take place on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June at People’s Park, where motoring enthusiasts can meet Haslam and the Hacketts in person.

The classic Westmount hill climb and Victoria Park stunt events are both part of this year’s festival, along with food and drink stalls and live entertainment.

Jersey International Motoring Festival received a £5,000 government grant to support the event’s milestone anniversary this year – its first public grant since 2012.
