Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey’s annual Rowathon – where fundraisers row 30,000 meters (equivalent rowing distance of Jersey to Sark) in teams of six has raised over £20,000 for the island-based charity.

Over 100 ‘oar-some’ islanders got together on the morning of Saturday 6th April at The Radisson Blu, with the event being launched by members of Intrepid 232 (who crossed the Atlantic and sailed into record books).

Stephanie Gibaut – CEO of Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey said ‘We are once again blown away by the incredible support shown by our local community. Our Rowathon isn’t just about a rowing race, it is a great example of how our community can come together to support islanders affected by cancer. A huge thank you to everyone that took part and to our sponsors Praxis, without whom , this event wouldn’t be possible.’

The event was kindly sponsored by Praxis – ensuring all money raised by supporters goes directly to funding the emotional, practical and wellbeing support that Macmillan Jersey offers to any islander affected by cancer.

As a local charity, Macmillan Jersey’s vision is to support everyone in Jersey affected by cancer, whilst shaping the future of cancer care. As a local charity, Macmillan Jersey receive no funding from Macmillan UK or the Government of Jersey – meaning fundraising events such as the Rowathon are vital in allowing them to continue their work in our island-based community.
