Cyclists turned out in force again for the 2014 Heritage-sponsored Rock to Rocque bike ride, this year celebrating 21 years.
Raising money for Les Bourgs Hospice, over 1,120 cyclists of all ages took part in the event, which is the record number for the event – an increase of around 100 compared with last year.
Event organiser Mira Domaille was delighted with the turn out:
‘Seeing so many local people turn out on the day was just fantastic. We had cyclists of all ages and abilities and we are extremely grateful for everyone’s efforts in raising funds for Les Bourgs. We haven’t done the final tally yet but we think that we will have raised even more than last year – which was already a record of £35,000.’
Cyclists were given a certificate on completion of the ride, especially designed by 10-year-old Ruby Hynes and enjoyed a hog roast on North Beach car park to celebrate their success.
Fundraising co-ordinator for the hospice Trish de Carteret commented:
‘Les Bourgs relies heavily on this type of fund-raising event. The generosity of people who give up their time both in organising these things as well as taking part never ceases to amaze me and we are extremely grateful to everyone involved and to Heritage for its sponsorship.’
