A new festive initiative from employees at RBC Wealth Management will see over 300 presents donated to Guernsey charities this Christmas. Known as a Reverse Advent Calendar, participants were invited to donate a gift to a specific charity to be given before the Christmas break.

Marg Concannon from RBC Wealth Management, helped coordinate the collection: ‘The idea was suggested by a colleague who saw a Facebook post describing the Reverse Advent Calendar. We had been searching for an appropriate way to give to Guernsey charities at Christmas and this struck us all as a great initiative for i-CARE, our employee-led community support and networking group within RBC Wealth Management’.

The idea behind the Reverse Advent Calendar is that participants add a donation to a box every day until there are 25 items to donate.  The filled box is then given to the specified charity. Items include a range of toiletries; biscuits and chocolates; soft drinks and tins of food; pet’s toys and treats for resident gerbils at The Hub.

‘The support from RBC and our colleagues has been staggering,’ said Marg, also one of the Co-Chairs of i-CARE. ‘Thanks to their generosity we now have well in excess of 300 presents to give away this year to six charities in the Island this Christmas’.

The objectives for i-CARE include providing a community of support and connecting RBC employees with resources that support building self-care skills and capabilities. Since its inception this has included a range of talks from Guernsey charities which has offered an opportunity for employees to become more aware of the many support agencies available.

Over the course of the next seven days representatives from the charities will either collect the presents or have them delivered by RBC Wealth Management employees.
