Ogier has recruited two senior lawyers to strengthen its Guernsey dispute resolution team with a particularly focus on its leading restructuring and insolvency practice.

Counsel Alex Horsbrugh-Porter and Associate Michael Rogers have joined the team, which has also recently seen the return of partner Simon Davies after the conclusion of the Carlyle hearings – the biggest and longest-running commercial litigation in Guernsey's history.

Alex is a Guernsey Advocate and a UK qualified licensed insolvency practitioner who was previously a partner at a Cayman Islands firm – he was recruited from a local corporate insolvency firm where he took appointments as a liquidator, and is a director of ARIES, the local chapter of international insolvency and bankruptcy practitioners INSOL.

Michael is a UK Solicitor and South Africa Attorney with experience in both insolvency practice and commercial litigation, who has been practicing in Guernsey for almost five years.

Mathew Newman, a partner in the Guernsey Dispute Resolution team, said that the two senior recruitments meant that the team was the strongest that it has ever been.

Mathew said: "We're delighted to welcome Alex and Michael to the team – in the last few months we have picked up three very high profile, major insolvency instructions, and our added strength in depth in this area demonstrates our confidence in the sector going forward.

"The growth in the team and Simon's return having been focussed solely on the Carlyle case for the last 12 months means that we are in an excellent position for the start of 2017."

The Guernsey Dispute Resolution team has been highly praised in directories in the last 12 months – the leading Chambers UK directory recorded client feedback that "All the advice they have given has been of very high quality, and responsiveness is first class, but they have also demonstrated a very practical approach towards dispute resolution".

It also noted that Simon "is plainly one of the top commercial and corporate litigators" in Guernsey and that Mathew "is one of the top insolvency lawyers on the island, with a wealth of experience and good judgement".
