Walkers has made its first appointment since establishing a presence in Guernsey.

Phoebe Dengate Thrush, who is originally from New Zealand, has joined as an associate having relocated from the global law firm’s Cayman office.

‘One of the many benefits of being part of the largest law firm to have a presence in the Channel Islands is the network of highly skilled legal specialists. Walkers in Guernsey is already tapping into the extensive knowledge of our colleagues across the world to the benefit of our clients and also offering them the opportunity to experience life in Guernsey. I hope Phoebe will be the first of many,’ said Walkers Guernsey partner Alison Ozanne.

Ms Dengate Thrush, who has joined the dispute resolution team, has degrees in law and biomedical science from Victoria University in New Zealand and was Private Secretary to the Honourable Chris Finlayson, Attorney-General of New Zealand in 2012 and 2013 and then Crown Counsel with the Crown Law Offices in the Cook Islands in 2014 and 2015. She joined Walkers in the Cayman Islands last year.

‘Moving to a new island is a fantastic challenge and I am looking forward to learning more about Guernsey and its legal system and broadening my experience. I want to continue strengthening the Walkers network through my relationships with the team in Cayman,’ she said.

The 30-year-old, who was an extra in the Lord of the Rings, said Walkers offered great opportunities to work in other jurisdictions.

‘The advantage of working with a global law firm is the opportunity to work with lawyers from all over the world and spend time in their other offices,’ she said.
