Could Jersey's Air Show be hit by UK Air Crash restrictions?

Tuesday 25 August 2015

The organiser of Jersey's International Air Display is consulting with Jersey's Civil Aviation Authority and other officials to ensure tough restrictions on UK Air displays won't impact September's event.

The new restrictions were announced Monday afternoon and Mike Higgins has been studying them carefully to ensure they won't impact on the Jersey display.

"Looking at what they've said I think we should be alright as it says flying displays over land will be significantly restricted but as we're over the sea it should be fine," said Mr Higgins.

The restrictions follow the tragic accident over the weekend when a 1950s Hawker Hunter ploughed into cars near Shoreham during a display killing around 20 people. The plane which was involved in the crash had flown in the Jersey Air Display last year and had been due to come back again this year. All Hawker Hunters have now been grounded pending the investigation.

Mr Higgins will today be seeking further advice from the Civil Aviation Authorities in Jersey and the UK to ensure there will be no impact on the current schedule for the September 10th International Air Display here.
