Driver nearly twice legal alcohol limit banned and fined

Saturday 27 April 2024

A motorist who drove home from a party while almost twice the legal alcohol limit has been fined £2,500 and banned from driving for three years.

Harvey John Dellarcrone (27) drove his blue Land Rover Discovery in the early hours of Sunday morning after two glasses of wine and four beers.

Police saw him swerving over central white lines at 02:45 and pulled him over just outside Haute Vallee School in La Grande Route de Mont a L'Abbe.

They could smell alcohol on Dellarcrone's breath, and arrested him on suspicion of drinking and driving.

St Helier Centenier Paul Huelin said Dellarcrone underwent a breath test at police headquarters and was found to have 67 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – almost twice the legal maximum of 35 micrograms.

He added that Dellarcrone had a previous drink-driving conviction from eight years ago.

Advocate David Steenson, defending, said Dellarcrone had been drinking at a friend’s 30th birthday party when he made the “poor decision” to drive home, but had pleaded guilty at his first appearance.

As well as the driving ban and the fine, Relief Magistrate Peter Harris ordered Dellarcrone to retake and pass the driving test after the ban has elapsed.
