Man taken to hospital after St. Thomas assault

Monday 22 October 2018

A man had to be treated in the hospital’s Emergency Department this weekend after an alleged assault near St. Thomas’s Church.

Police say it happened during what they describe as a “physical altercation” between two men in the early hours of Sunday morning, around 05:30.

One of the men was said to have fled in the direction of New Street, while the other was left lying on the pavement by the church’s northern car park entrance.

The man left lying on the floor was taken to A&E but later discharged.

The area was subsequently taped off, and islanders living in the area reported seeing armed officers and a dog handler.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the apparent assault or anyone who might be able to identify those involved.

In particular, they say they would like to speak to a man and woman who walked past the Jersey Green Room Club.

“It is believed they may have seen both men and therefore may be able to help us identify those involved and what took place. We would seek to reassure them that there is nothing to suggest they were involved in the incident,” a Police statement read.

Those with any information are urged to contact 612612 or make an anonymous report via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
