If you are looking for ways to simplify your life, then the National Trust may have just the job for you.

It does involve dressing up in period costume one day a week, dusting off those history books and starting to perfect your cooking skills though - 16 New Street is on the lookout for a new cook housekeeper.

The part-time role would see the successful applicant embrace their inner Georgian and work in period costume at the Georgian House whilst engaging with visitors to make them feel like they are stepping back in time.

Catherine Ward, House and Collections Manager said: “The role of the cook housekeeper is integral to the house and one of the key features that visitors pick up on when they visit us.”

“From the minute they walk into the dimly lit Georgian Kitchen visitors step back in time and are greeted by the sights and smells of a typical Regency home – with dim candlelight, a real chicken roasting on a spit in front of a real fire and real food to taste. In the past we have employed some fantastic characters in this role and our visitors really enjoy having someone friendly to banter with. She is the beating heart of the house.”

The Trust say to be successful in this role, you will need to be a charismatic storyteller with a keen interest in history.
