Dr Vanessa Mitchell has joined Blanchelande’s Senior Leadership Team, bringing more than fifteen years of experience across a range of academic settings, and a specialism in pastoral leadership.
Dr Mitchell has returned to Guernsey, following her time at an “outstanding” international British school in Dubai, and is said to be eager to embrace her new role at Blanchelande.
Throughout her career, she has held key roles including Assistant Head Pastoral, Deputy Principal Pastoral, Head of Sixth Form, and Head of Department, and was a finalist for Pastoral Leader of the Year 2022, and was more recently awarded a Fellowship from the Chartered College of Teaching.
A spokesperson for Blanchelande College says that Dr Mitchell’s philosophy “strikes a balance between academic excellence and high expectations”, and is “underpinned by exceptional pastoral care”.
On her new role, Dr Mitchell said: “I am delighted to be joining Blanchelande at such an exciting stage in their journey. The warm welcome I’ve received from staff, parents, and students speaks volumes about the strong sense of community the school is so rightly renowned for.”
She continued: “My values and vision align closely with Blanchelande’s holistic approach to education – where every student is nurtured as an individual, their talents celebrated, and their confidence developed to thrive in the wider world. I can’t wait to contribute to this wonderful community and make a positive impact in my new role.”

The college’s spokesperson said she is “committed to strengthening Blanchelande’s vision of excellence and community.”
“With a focus on collaboration, she looks forward to working closely with staff, students, and families to build on the College’s achievements, create new opportunities for growth, and ensure every child flourishes in all aspects of their lives.”
