Guernsey’s Data Protection Authority has joined the leadership committee of a global network of privacy authorities.

The Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA) has been elected to join the executive committee of the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA).

The new position will allow the ODPA to contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the assembly.

The executive committee helps “strengthen international cooperation, ensuring that global responses to emerging privacy and data protection challenges are coordinated, effective and inclusive”, a spokesperson said.

The appointment will also benefit other smaller jurisdictions, by ensuring they have a voice at the top table, the spokesperson said.

Commissioner Brent Homan, said he was “deeply humbled and appreciative”.

He said: “This is both an honour and a responsibility.

“We are committed to contributing to the GPA’s work in promoting data rights across the globe.”
