IslandHealth won two awards at the first Guernsey’s Best Workplace Awards.

The practice was named Overall Winner (medium sized business) and was highlighted with the Future Focused Spotlight Award.

“Committed to patient care since 1894, IslandHealth is one of the largest providers of primary care in the Channel Islands,” it proudly proclaims.

Based in Guernsey, Island Health has practices at L’Aumone, in St Sampson’s, and in town.

Offering a range of medical services, IslandHealth is “here to make your medical care as convenient and accessible as possible”.

Dr Michael Long said it is also vitally important to IslandHealth that it looks after its staff.

“At IslandHealth, looking after our staff is fundamental to delivering outstanding patient care. The Practice is, at its core, a people-driven service, and the wellbeing, engagement and satisfaction of our team directly influence the experience and outcomes of our patients.

“Our survey results clearly reinforce this connection. For example, 95% of employees say they are proud of their workplace and 98% would recommend it to others. When people feel valued, supported and aligned with the organisation’s purpose, they are more motivated to provide compassionate, high-quality care.    Investing in our people is not separate from patient care – it is essential to it.”

The results that Dr Long refers to came directly from the survey responses given by IslandHealth’s staff.

He said that he and the management team at IslandHealth are “incredibly proud of the feedback” received through the survey results.

“The consistently high engagement scores – such as 95% of employees feeling their work is meaningful and 95% saying they like their job – are a strong endorsement of the culture we are building together.

“For the management team, these results are both encouraging and humbling. They reflect the commitment of our Practice at every level to create an environment where people feel heard, empowered and supported.

“At the same time, we don’t take this for granted. High engagement is something that must be continuously nurtured, and we see these results as motivation to keep improving.”

Each of the businesses which entered the Guernsey’s Best Workplace Awards have received a ‘dashboard’ of their individual survey data.

Dr Long said that has given IslandHealth a basis for future employee engagement.

“While the results are very positive overall, they also highlight important opportunities for growth, and we are committed to acting on them. For example, although many employees feel informed, less than 100%  said they have all the information they need to be their best at work. This tells us we can strengthen communication and transparency across the organisation.

“We also noted that fewer employees feel there are sufficient opportunities for learning and development, and 73% indicated they would benefit from more. As a result, we will look at prioritising expanded training, career development pathways and continuous learning initiatives. Ultimately, our goal is to build on our strengths while addressing these insights in a meaningful and measurable way, ensuring IslandHealth continues to be a great place to work as well as a trusted provider of care.”
