Guernsey students have been taking part in the Institute of Directors’ ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ event, giving them the opportunity to attend the recent IoD Convention, and to meet a central figure in the Post Office Horizon scandal.
Those selected to attend the event met Lee Castleton OBE; a central figure in the scandal, and legal academic Richard Moorhead.
The pair were guest speakers at the IoD convention where they discussed the corporate governance failure and systemic injustice of the scandal, offering observations on what lessons could be learnt by Guernsey’s business community, and helping to broaden students’ career horizons.

Glen Tonks, Chair of IoD Guernsey, said: “The Post Office scandal highlighted the very ugly consequences of corporate governance failure. It caused immeasurable personal suffering and has undermined trust in existing frameworks of governance and business leadership.
“We, as a business community, can learn a lot from it, and it has been fantastic to speak to tomorrow’s business leaders to get their take on how Guernsey should react.”
The IoD Leaders of Tomorrow Scheme is sponsored by the Ana Leaf Foundation, and aims to connect students with local employers and showcase diverse career paths beyond university.
Hayley de Putron, Trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation, said: “Supporting the Leaders of Tomorrow programme is a privilege. These experiences inspire young islanders to dream big and develop the skills needed to excel in their careers. We are proud to help shape Guernsey’s future leaders.”
One of the students who attended the event said it was a unique opportunity.
“This was a very unique and enriching experience which provided me with an opportunity to broaden my view on corporate governance and current affairs,” said Elodie Riley, a student at Elizabeth College.
