A pitching event for both local and UK businesses recently held its summer event to give company founders a chance to practice their pitching to a room of investors.

Pitch Guernsey’s Summer Edition, held at Artemis House on 29 July, was the initiative’s second event.

Six founders presented their businesses to a room of more than 20 investors who gave structured feedback after the presentation, as well as three cash prizes.

Ellen Armsden, Co Founder of marine software company Crewdentials, sat in the hot seat and said it was “the best and most actionable feedback I’ve ever had from a pitch”.

Ms Armsden was one of 6 entrepeneurs to pitch their event.

Four came from the UK and two were local to Guernsey, withe extra seating needed to accommodate the high numbers.

The businesses pitching were already at the stage of raising investment, so the event was an opportunity to network with investors and build relationships.

Founders were also competing for first, second and third place prizes worth £1,500 in total.

Hannah Mellor, of eco-irrigation firm Nendo, won first prize for her business’ focus on sustainability.

Katie Hanton-Parr of Baboodle – a baby equipment rental business – won second, while Andrew Melton of Guernsey’s MAP Health came third – the best-placed local participant.

Pitch Guernsey thanked Aston CM, HFL and Artemis Hotel for their help in delivering the event.
