The local software and data company’s tool allows the island’s main post hub to track parcels in real-time as they process through the warehouse and wider supply chain.
While the new machinery, introduced as part of a restructuring programme for GPL, scans, weighs and logs parcels as they feed through to the correct outstations, Bragi monitors all this and presents it in a clear format.
Around 30,000 parcels are expected to go through the building daily over the coming days, something which Neil Pailing, Head of IT at GPL, says will be supported by Bragi.
“Automating the process means that we don’t have postal workers having to manually receipt scan items on their handheld, which greatly simplifies their tasks before heading out for deliveries. It ultimately means we can process more parcels which is so important at peak times,” he said.
Jason Magee, lead developer of Bragi, said while the firm has worked with GPL before, this took it “to a whole new level as we knew how important it was”.
“It took some innovative thinking to ensure that Bragi could keep up with the non-stop flow of data coming from the sorter.”
Both firms have agreed to continue collaborating, with one area in the crosshairs being performance reporting.
