Sure Guernsey has rebranded to Sure by Beyon as it sets out its commitment to develop “world-class” connectivity for the island through a 5G network.

It has entered a strategic partnership with Ericsson, following the near-completion of its fibre rollout to all households and the acquisition of Airtel in the Channel Islands.

The company has said it will invest £48m to build a standalone 5G network years ahead of UK operators which will increase coverage and capacity by a third.

It’s hoped new services will launch in 2026, complementing the completion of the fibre programme, pending the issuing of licences by the States.

The Beyon Group has global reach and will help Sure invest and improve customer service.

“Our ambition is to build Guernsey’s best network, which will be a platform for future innovation and ensuring our customers enjoy the benefits of global scale and local care. We are proud of what our 400-strong team achieve and the way they embrace world-class expertise and best practices from a truly international network operator,” Sure CEO Alistair Beak said.

Group CEO of Beyon Andrew Kvålseth added: “Sure’s sizeable investment programme has the full backing of Beyon; £100m will be spent across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man over five years to build world-class networks that are the backbone of connectivity.

“Sure spends about £1,000 per capita in Guernsey. Extrapolate that to the UK and you’re talking about what would be £60bn. That level of commitment illustrates the scale of our ambition and the impact that we believe world-class connectivity has on driving prosperity.”

Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, President of the Committee for Economic Development, said the move would futureproof the economy and improve services for islanders.
