The Guernsey Border Agency has been in contact with employers underlining what will change and what will not when the transition arrangements between the UK and the EU come to an end on 31 December.

The big change will be that EU nationals will have to apply for a visa to come to work, prior to their travel. Applications must be made by the employee once the Population Management permit has been submitted through Population Management Portal.

It is very important to note that switching from visitor categories into employment will not be permitted,” said a spokesman for the GBA. “Therefore it is imperative to ensure that both the employment permit and visa are obtained prior to arrival. The visa application is made through the UK Government online system.”

Short-term permits, up to 12 months, cost £244; permits for periods longer than 12 months will cost £610 and the employee will have to submit biometrics. 

Applicants will need to be in possession of a valid passport in order to apply.
