The move was part of a broader constitutional reform in 2005, designed to enhance scrutiny, transparency and good governance across the public sector.

The Comptroller and Auditor General is responsible for the use of public funds in Jersey.

Comptroller and Auditor General Lynn Pamment said: “Jersey’s forward thinking approach of 20 years ago demonstrated the States’ commitment to being open to independent scrutiny and assurance over corporate governance arrangements and the spending of public money.

“Over the years the JAO has grown from strength to strength and the stability and independent assurance brought by the JAO has become increasingly important to both government and the general public.”

The 20th anniversary also coincides with the States of Jersey opening up its recruitment process for a new Comptroller and Auditor General.

Ms Pamment will conclude her seven-year fixed term of office in December 2026.
