Successful applicants will join a two-year programme that will see them cycle through different areas of Treasury, and result in them achieving either the Certified Accounting Technician (Foundation Level) or a Chartered Accountant (ACCA) qualification.
Throughout the process, they’ll receive one-to-one mentoring and financial assistance with the cost of their courses and study materials.
It comes amid a drive to recruit and retain more local talent in the public sector to cut reliance on appointments from outside the island and the spend on external consultants.
The idea of a ‘Commercial Academy’ to help plug skills gaps is under consideration by Government and a feasibility study due to be conducted, as Express revealed earlier this year.
“It’s vital that the Government continues to attract the brightest and the best, and that we nurture talent on-island, and train up the leaders of tomorrow,” Stephanie Ward, Head of Business and Performance, said.
“[The Trainee Accountant] programme blends together practical and academic learning, which will prepare trainees to enter the workforce and ensure that the Government is able to deliver the wide range of services we offer to the island.”
Anyone eligible to work in Jersey has until 29 September to apply.
