Gas supplier Islands Energy Group has appointed a lawyer with more than 30 years of international experience as its new Group General Counsel.

The company – which owns and operates the gas distribution networks serving Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, serving 35,000 domestic, commercial and industrial customers – said Karen Lawrie will lead its legal, governance and regulatory matters across the company’s operations in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, providing strategic legal support as the business continues to evolve.

Ms Lawrie joins the company after holding senior legal and executive positions with a number of major international businesses, including EDF Energy, Storegga, Subsea 7, Atlas Corp and AET Tankers. Most recently, she served as Chief Legal Officer at global energy-transition technology company Esyasoft.

A dual-qualified solicitor in England and Wales and attorney in Texas, she brings expertise in corporate governance, regulatory affairs, risk management, major projects and cross-border transactions.

Islands Energy Group chief executive Graeme Millar described the appointment as a significant addition to the leadership team.

“Her experience spans some of the world’s most complex and highly regulated energy and infrastructure businesses, giving her an exceptional understanding of the legal, governance and commercial challenges facing our sector,” he said.

Ms Lawrie said she was looking forward to joining the business at what she described as an “exciting stage” in its development.

“The energy sector is undergoing significant transformation and I look forward to working with colleagues across the business to support its strategic ambitions, manage risk effectively and help deliver sustainable growth across the Crown Dependencies,” she added.
