The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) branch in Jersey has announced the appointment of a new Chair and Deputy Chair.

Kathryn Abraham, Head of Legal for HSBC’s Trust and Fiduciary Services business in the Channel Islands, has been appointed as Chair, and Rajah Abusrewil, partner at Walkers, as Deputy Chair of the Branch Committee.

Ms Abraham succeeds outgoing Chair, Stephen Alexander.

An experienced private wealth and trusts lawyer, she has a particular interest in family governance, philanthropy and sustainability.

Ms Abraham joined the STEP Jersey Branch Committee in 2020 as Student Liaison Officer and has since played a key role in promoting the trust profession in Jersey, the organisation said.

Her contributions have included the development and implementation of “strategic initiatives” focused on NextGen engagement, education and networking, alongside active involvement in various industry working groups.

Rajah Abusrewil, a committee member of STEP Jersey, has taken on a three-year term as the deputy chair.

Ms Abusrewil leads Walkers’ Jersey Private Capital & Trusts practice group and has over 20 years’ experience delivering “bespoke solutions” for international families and family offices.

She is a “recognised specialist” in private wealth law and a longstanding contributor to the Branch’s initiatives in Guernsey and now in Jersey, the organisation says.

Ms Abraham said: “It is an honour to take up the role of Chair at such an important time for the industry and the STEP Jersey Branch.

“I look forward to working with Rajah and the Committee to continue supporting our members and upholding the highest standards of professional excellence across Jersey’s fiduciary community.”

Ms Abusrewil added: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Deputy Chair of STEP Jersey. It is a great honour to represent Jersey and its trust industry in this way.

“The STEP Jersey branch is the largest in the world outside London, and I look forward to supporting our over 1,100 local members.”
