Bowls Guernsey is delighted to announce this morning that local administrator Garry Collins has been re-elected to the World Bowls board, as Director for Europe. He beat Zvika Hadar of Israel to secure a second term until 2020. He received 70% of the votes cast.

“I am totally honoured to have been re-elected to the World Bowls Board and to be continuing my role within Europe. Last year it was fantastic to see France and Hungary officially join our World Bowls family. I have also been working with members from Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Sweden, which I hope to see join as members over this next term. The 2019 European Championships will also be hosted in Guernsey as announced late last year following our successful bid, so I’m very pleased I can show off Guernsey to Europe for the 8-day tournament which will bring to the Island over 200 people” Garry Collins.

Garry was given life membership by the Bowls Guernsey Association late last year following 20 years of administration into local bowls, he joined Alison Merrien MBE who was the first life member following her honour by the Palace. Garry is also the Chef De Mission/Team Leader for the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Teams, as well as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. He stepped down as Secretary for Bowls Guernsey following his appointment in 2016 to the World Board, but he continues to help Guernsey in a supportive role as an events coordinator. He organised two open tournaments in Guernsey and the first British Crown Dependencies test match last year.
