The winners of the inaugural Monster Music Quiz in aid of Guernsey Chest and Heart LBG are celebrating being the holders of the first trophy and taking home £500 too share between them.

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Cherry Godfrey, the Chest and Heart charity are also celebrating being able to contribute £3,000 to their ongoing fundraising so that they can continue to offer free cardiovascular screenings to islanders.

The winning team, Radio Gaga, comprised Debra Cain, Simon Charlwood, Mikal Dyas, Paul and Sharon Poullain and Patrick Devaney, who said: “We really wanted to thank everyone for putting on such a great event. It was a tight contest but we were thrilled to win.”

Host Jim Delbridge says it was a really fun event and was pleased with the turn-out and how everyone got into the spirit, even at times singing out loud: “Our Monster Music quizzers really did know their Smashing Pumpkins from their Red Hot Chilli Peppers and their Steeleye Span from their Steely Dan – we covered a wide range of musical genres and tastes so there was something for everyone to test their knowledge and all the teams did really well.”

According to recent Guernsey Public Health Data, circulatory and respiratory diseases are two of Bailiwick’s leading causes of mortality.

“With an ageing demographic and people living ever more stressful lives, the need for our services is sadly becoming increasingly important,” says Chest & Heart Chair Sally-Ann David.

“It takes more than £125,000 a year to maintain our services and, as charitable funding becomes ever more limited and competitive, fundraising events like these are essential if we are to maintain our free service for the island. It enables us to employ more nurses and meet additional demand for our services, especially from corporates who are placing more emphasis on employee wellbeing. Guernsey is such a musical place that we hoped this quiz would have really broad appeal and help islanders show their support for us at the same time.”
