Shoppers at a busy local charity shop are benefitting from more customer parking.

Les Bourgs Hospice charity shop, at Rue des Huriaux, has created 10 additional parking spaces making it easier for shoppers and for Islanders dropping off donations. Shop Manager Ms Danielle Bullock explained: ‘The shop is vital to the Hospice and we’ve been aware that callers have sometimes struggled to park at peak times. Thankfully, the situation has been greatly improved by an increased capacity to 31 parking spaces on the premises.’

Hospice CEO Rob Jones commented: We’re all delighted that we can now offer the sort of parking customers would expect of a retail operation of this size. It’s taken a while but I’m particularly grateful to the landlord and to everyone involved for all their work in making this a reality. It’s hard to overstate the importance of the shop to the Hospice, which receives no funding from the States of Guernsey. We rely on the shop volunteers and staff to generate this main source of income and we couldn’t run the Hospice without their contribution.  It costs £8000 to run the Hospice every single day, so anything that makes it easier for our community to access the shop is certainly something to celebrate.”

The charity was founded at Andrew Mitchell House in 1991 to provide compassionate and specialist palliative care to anyone in the Bailiwick with a life-limiting illness, as well as support for their families.
