Guernsey for Freedom is holding a very special sustainable fashion event – returning by popular demand – on Saturday 30th April 2022, at Holy Trinity Church – doors opening at 6.30pm. All proceeds go to bringing slaves to freedom.

Until the work undertaken by our partner organisations began, she was a slave. She lived in a brick kiln with her parents, three brothers, and one sister moulding and baking clay bricks. Working from daybreak to sunset under the watchful eye of the slaveholder’s overseers, Poonam was beaten if she didn’t work hard enough. Her family had just one meal a day. Today Poonam is going to school and learning to read and write. Her family eats three times a day – and Poonam dares to hope for her future. She wants to become a police officer one day so that she can stop ‘bad men forcing children to work in bad situations’. Come hear more about how the project has brought over three hundred people to freedom.

The highlight of the event will be a sustainable fashion show being curated by Kay Davidson (www.askaystyle.com) which will be full of tips on how to upcycle and after the show there will be an opportunity to buy items. Kay, who has long experience in the fashion industry, says:-

‘One of the most impactful things we can do to become more sustainable with our fashion choices is to become fully aware of what we buy and wear. Not in terms of the cost of an item but in terms of the social and environmental cost. This event is a showcase for sustainable fashion and how we can take action now, whilst still enjoying and celebrating expression through what we wear.’

A limited number of VIP tickets are available at £35 per person. Price includes refreshment and canapés, previewing and a chance to buy clothing from the Dressing Up Box, Love2U and from view sustainable fashion brands. You are also invited to bring an item of clothing in your wardrobe that you are looking for a tip on how to re-style from Kay.

IF you just wish to view the Fashion Show only, Balcony seats are available with a suggested minimum donation of £10 or £5 (concessions) (doors opening at 7.45 p.m.)
