Islanders are being encouraged to check their blood pressure as part of the Know Your Numberscampaign, which highlights the importance of early detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

High blood pressure affects almost one in five Islanders and often has no obvious symptoms. If left untreated, it can increase the risk of serious conditions including heart disease, stroke, heart attack and kidney disease.

Mark Harris, Lead for the Jersey Heart Support Group, said: “Knowing your blood pressure is one of the simplest ways to understand more about your health. High blood pressure can often be detected early and managed through lifestyle changes and medical support where needed.”

As part of the campaign, Islanders can visit participating community pharmacies between 7 and 13 September for a free blood pressure check.

The campaign encourages Islanders to make small, sustainable lifestyle changes that can help reduce blood pressure, including eating a healthy diet, being physically active, maintaining a healthy weight, drinking alcohol in moderation and stopping smoking.

The message is simple: know your numbers and take an important step towards protecting your long-term health.
