Guernsey Chest and Heart has formed an agreement with public health to roll out free testing to detect undiagnosed cases of high blood pressure and cholesterol.
The States says many cases are going unnoticed since they are often symptomless – but spotting them can help prevent serious cardiovascular diseases and dementia.
Free walk-in clinics will be offered on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and Saturday mornings, throughout September.
They can be accessed at the Chest and Heart Centre at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
Funding has been agreed up until December, and the service could be expanded depending on its successes.

C&H Manager Caroline Ogier said the simple checks offered could prevent serious illnesses in future.
“Certain community-based settings such as community centres will also offer these tests. We will be looking to extend this programme to Alderney residents, if the pilot is successful.”
Dr Nicola Brink, Director of Public Health, added that many people in the community will unknowingly have these conditions.
“The early detection and treatment of these conditions can reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes and dementia. This is part of our programme to help islanders live longer and healthier lives,” she said.
“It is a great opportunity to reach more people in the community, especially those who might not realise they are at risk. Early detection can make a big difference to someone’s health and quality of life.”
