Airtel-Vodafone are offering primary schools the opportunity for their pupils to learn how to stay safe online.

Peter Zunino, head of marketing, said: "Christmas is always a popular time for parents to buy children a new piece of technology, whether that is a smartphone, tablet or computer.

More and more internet enabled devices are coming onto the market, and as a responsible telecommunications provider, we feel it is important to help equip children and parents with the tools and knowledge to help them stay safe online.’

Airtel-Vodafone are offering free sessions to primary schools covering topics such as device security, password protection and social media awareness.

The first school to benefit from these sessions was FCJ.

Head teacher Ms Lenzi said: "We have recently given all Key Stage Two pupils iPad’s to use in school, so the timing of these sessions was ideal. The Internet is a wonderful learning tool, but it’s important that children have a good foundation of safety issues from the start of their digital learning experience."

Mr Zunino continued: "Parents often feel daunted by the pace of change of technology and some feel that their children know more about it than they do. The purpose of this initiative is therefore twofold, so we are encouraging parents to pick up a or download a copy of the Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide this Christmas which is packed full of useful advice around safety settings, social media, cyberbullying and much more."
