Business leaders shortlisted for national awards

Thursday 20 October 2016

Six business leaders from across Jersey’s private and public sectors have been shortlisted in this week's national finals of the Institute of Directors (IoD) UK Director of the Year Awards.

The Awards are being held in London on Friday and are designed to recognise and celebrate the exceptional achievements of individuals at director level within private, public and voluntary organisations across Britain.

It is the sixth consecutive year that Jersey will be represented at them and this year all those shortlisted were winners at the Jersey Director of the Year Awards, held in April.

The Jersey contingent includes:

  • Mid-Market Director of the Year: Doug Bannister, Group CEO, Ports of Jersey Limited

  • SME Company Director of the Year: Alexandra Morel, Managing Director, ALX Training, and Glenda Rivoallan, Founder and Director, Healthhaus Ltd

  • Young Director of the Year: Richard Summerfield, Group Human Resources Director, JT Group

  • Not for Profit/Third Sector Director of the Year: Lesley Harrison, Chairman, Prison! Me! No Way!!!

  • International Director of the Year: Eamon Philip Fenlon, Managing Director, Jersey Dairy

All of those shortlisted from Jersey will compete for the national awards from a total pool of 88 individuals, including some of the UK’s most successful company directors from across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Colin Macleod, CEO of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society, will sit on the judging panel for this year’s national awards.

Chris Clark, IoD Jersey Chair, said: “This is the sixth year in a row that senior professionals from Jersey have been shortlisted for these national awards, which is a fantastic achievement. It’s particularly pleasing that such a broad cross section of organisations from Jersey are included too, providing a real endorsement of the range of talent that exists across Jersey's private and public sectors."

Islanders have won an award every year since 2011. Last year, Colin Macleod, CEO of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society (Jersey), won the ‘Large Company Director of the Year’ Award; in 2014, John McGuinness, Headmaster of Grainville School, was named ‘Public/Third Sector Director of the Year’; in 2013 Eamonn Elliott, General Manager of the Grand Jersey, won the ‘Young Director of the Year’; in 2012 Eliot Lincoln, CEO of Greenlight, won the same award; in 2011, Richard Rolfe, former headteacher at Le Rocquier School, won the ‘Public Sector’ category.

The Jersey Director of the Year Awards took place on 29 April at the Hotel de France, hosted by Gyles Brandreth. Appleby were Gold Sponsor of the event and Investec Bank (Channel Islands) were Silver Sponsor.
