Businesses need to react to impending climate change legislation

Thursday 29 October 2015

The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris next month is anticipated to result in a legally binding global deal for climate change mitigation.

The potential legislative implications for businesses, including those in Jersey, will be the subject of the 2015 Durrell Business Breakfast Seminar at the Pomme D'Or Hotel on Friday 6 November.

Sponsored for the eighth year by RBC Wealth Management, this seminar’s keynote speaker will be Barbara Black with a speech entitled Business in a Changing Climate.

With over 20 years’ involvement in the climate change process, Barbara Black is a former Director of Energy and Climate Policy at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. She will explore how businesses will need to evolve if they are to future-proof themselves against inevitable climate change and adapt to new legislation. Ms Black will seek to illustrate how those businesses that follow an enlightened and proactive stance towards their energy, waste and water footprint over the coming decades will be at a distinct competitive advantage over those that do nothing.

Oliver Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust said: "The Durrell Business Breakfast is a yearly opportunity for the Island’s businesses to share and learn about corporate social responsibility best practices. We are absolutely delighted to have secured Barbara Black who is a leader in her field.  Her skills in facilitating businesses planning for a long-term sustainable future are renowned; we are very much looking forward to welcoming her to Jersey."

Chris Blampied, Head of Banking at RBC Wealth Management said: "This seminar will provide an ideal opportunity for attendees to understand the complexities and importance of climate change legislation and how we all need to act to make sure it is an integral part of businesses’ growth strategies. This is an issue that is highly relevant for all organisations that wish to understand and manage their future risks more effectively."

The Durrell breakfast seminar will take place on Friday 6 November, 08.00-10.00hrs at the Pomme D’Or Hotel.

Tickets are free of charge and you can get them by contacting christine.holmes@durrell.org
