Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management supports JSAD in Jersey Marathon

Tuesday 10 November 2015

Eight employees from Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management supported members of the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled (JSAD) in this year’s Jersey Marathon.

Twelve members of JSAD aged 15 to 66 took part in the marathon as a relay race including ten runners and two taking part in wheelchairs.

Volunteers from Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management acted as buddy runners, navigators and transporters to support the members along the 26.2 mile course.

Each member of the JSAD team was matched with two Canaccord volunteers to support them on their section of the course. The teams trained at several sessions before the race to build fitness as well as a sense of rapport. This included a prac=ce run between La Fregate and First Tower.

The two members of the JSAD team who competed in wheelchairs sprinted from St Brelade and along St Aubins bay to meet the rest of the team in town for the final section of the marathon. They were joined by other runners who wished to sprint the final few miles to the finish as a team.

JSAD supports local residents with disabilities who wish to take part in sport. The charity is one of Jersey’s largest sporting organisations offering a range of activities to all ages and disabilities.

The charity has participated in the Jersey Marathon every year since it launched in 2005. In that time the JSAD’s competitors have cut almost one hour off their combined time around the course.

Grahame Lovett, chief executive of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in Jersey, said: “This event is always a highlight of the sporting calendar in Jersey and one that our employees look forward to taking part in.

“There was a great sense of team work and fun on the day. JSAD provides such an important service in the island by helping to ensure everyone can enjoy sport and we are very pleased to support this.”
