Chamber appoints Murray Norton as new Chief Exec

Monday 14 May 2018

St. Brelade Deputy, Murray Norton, is to become the new Chief Executive of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

Deputy Norton isn't standing for re-election in Wednesday's General Election, and will officially take up the post on May 23 when his time as a States Member comes to an end.

Since being elected in 2014, he held the post of Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture with responsibility for culture and heritage. He was also responsible for Trading Standards and Consumer Affairs and the Channel Island Lottery, as well as sitting on the panel for the Housing and Work Advisory Group.

He commented: "I am passionate about promoting and enabling commerce in Jersey. Chamber exists to support, inform and enable its Members to contribute to a buoyant economy, which benefits the whole island. I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of Chief Executive of Chamber. As a businessman myself, I understand the challenges faced by our Members and having worked within the States Chamber, I offer a unique insight on how to get results for commerce through effective engagement with our Government and look forward to representing Chamber members."

President of The Jersey Chamber of Commerce, Eliot Lincoln, added: "Murray brings a unique perspective to Chamber that we feel will be particularly useful for our Members. He is a passionate businessman with a pragmatic approach to getting results for Chamber Members. We look forward to continuing our successful lobbying record and business events programme."
