Corbett Le Quesne hosts first ever Jersey IAFL studentship

Thursday 25 October 2018

Local law firm Corbett Le Quesne has been hosting a law student from Puerto Rico association with the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL).

Anyoli Martinez is studying for a law degree at the Law Faculty of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico as well as a MA in Legal Culture with the University of Girona, Spain.

She is in Jersey for a three-week internship organised with the IAFL, which offers internships all over the world.

Ms Martinez said: “I first became interested in the internship at Corbett Le Quesne when I spoke to a member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers about it. Jersey, Channel Islands was not a place I had heard of before and I found myself fascinated with the picturesque island, its coast and rich history. I was also especially eager to be an intern at the firm since I have a lot of interest in family law and hope to practise family law in the future.

"Furthermore, I thought it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about the judicial system in Jersey, especially in the area of family law and being able to compare it with my system in Puerto Rico. I look forward to learning more from the firm, about Jersey law and the processes of its courts.”

Corbett Le Quesne Founding Partner Advocate Barbara Corbett, who has been an IAFL fellow since September 2008, said that the firm was "really pleased" to host Anyoli.

"She is a determined young woman who is passionate about her future career in law, and we hope to inspire her further along that road. The IAFL internships are very prestigious and her having won a place is testament to her hard work and ambition in the field.”
