Digital Jersey Hub to host childcare workshop

Thursday 22 January 2015

Digital Jersey and the Jersey Child Care Trust are holding an educational workshop at the Digital Jersey Hub on Monday 26 January

It will led by Professor Stephen Heppell, a member of both the Digital Jersey Board and the Digital Jersey Education and Skills Technical Action Group. The event is open to those who care for - or work in - the early childhood sector and members of Digital Jersey.

The aim of the workshop, named “No such thing as too early”, is to inspire childcare practitioners, parents, and all who care for, educate, or work on behalf of young children, to adapt children’s learning through embracing new technologies. Professor Heppell will discuss children’s learning today and how developments in cognitive science have enabled us to understand more than we ever have before. He will also address in the workshop the importance of introducing children to new technologies from a young age.

Stephen Heppell is a professor at Bournemouth University. He is the chair for Learning Innovation at Universidad Camilo José Cela, in Madrid and he is also the chair of the UK Government's Education Technology Action Group advising on policy towards 2025. He has worked on a range of projects globally, demonstrating effective change in education.

Fiona Vacher, Executive Director of the Jersey Child Care Trust: “I am thrilled that Stephen Heppell is coming to Jersey. It will be fantastic for him to share his personal insights to inspire those in the early childhood sector to make invaluable improvements to young children’s education in Jersey”.

Digital Jersey members can register at info@jcct.org.je or 629901 to attend. Priority will be given to childcare practitioners and it costs £3 per person.
