Dressage gold support

GoldMoney is sponsoring the Jersey Riding Club annual Dressage Championships for the second year.

The championships are one of the highlights of the local equestrian calendar, a sport which has received higher profile in the Channel Islands in recent years through the Olympic success of Sark-born Carl Hester.

The Chairman of Jersey Riding Club, Sari Cuming, said: "With Great Britain's Charlotte Dujardin currently holding gold medals as reigning World, European and Olympic Champion, the interest in dressage has never been stronger. Dressage is the foundation of a horse's training, in whatever discipline they may later specialise, and an obedient, well balanced horse is as much a pleasure to ride in the hunting field as between the dressage boards. We are grateful to GoldMoney for their continued interest and support of these championships."

Qualifying competitions for the event were held in February, May and June with 34 through to the championships, competing for five different titles. There is a final opportunity to qualify on Saturday, 11 October with the championship classes taking place on Sunday. Whilst in most classes the qualifying score has been for horses gaining in excess of 60%, in many competitions during the season this has been exceeded and the organisers are looking forward to seeing some high scoring combinations over the weekend.

GoldMoney Jersey Director, Christina Irgel, said supporting local sporting events is important.

"Without support many local sports would struggle to be able to put on an event like this. It’s really important that we continue to provide these opportunities in our community and recognise the greater benefits. Dressage is a fantastic discipline for riders and their horses alike, and a great spectator’s sport. If we want to see success at a national and international level in any sport then we have to start at the grass roots," she said.

UK judge, Yvonne Huber will be officiating at the competition which takes place at Les Marais Indoor Centre from 10am to 3pm Saturday and 9.30am to 1pm Sunday. The prize giving will take place at 1.30pm Sunday.
