Enterprise Awards cancelled

Thursday 21 January 2016

The Awards for Enterprise have been cancelled for 2016, with organisers promising a review and a new-look event in 2017.

The awards, run by grant-funded business support group Jersey Business, are one of the main awards ceremonies on the business calendar.

The awards have been running in a largely unchanged format for several years - and now both the Board of Jersey Business and the Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture Department, say it's time to conduct a detailed review of the scheme to examine opportunities to improve the application and judging process and to refresh the event.

Graeme Smith, Chief Executive of Jersey Business said: "We know that the Jersey Business Awards for Enterprise are valued by the business community, both as a means of recognising and celebrating the considerable entrepreneurial talent that exists in the Island and for the process involved in entering. We are looking forward to working with the business community to review the Awards to ensure that they remain fit for purpose and stay relevant to everyone, including our partners, sponsors and all sectors of local business."

The review will be carried out throughout 2016 and the Awards will be relaunched in 2017 in a new format, taking into account all of the feedback gathered during the consultation process.

The Jersey Business Awards for Enterprise are the culmination of a week-long series of events in Enterprise Week, which will still go ahead in 2016 and the details of the events proposed for the week will be announced in the next few months. An exciting and stimulating programme is being developed, designed to inspire and motivate the Island's business community.

Senator Lyndon Farnham, Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture and the political sponsor of the Awards for Enterprise, said: "I completely understand the reasons why the board of Jersey Business has taken the decision to review the Awards while continuing to run an exciting series of events throughout Enterprise Week 2016. My department will continue to work closely with Jersey Business to improve all aspects of the Awards and I look forward to launching the new scheme in 2017."
