High demand for Waitrose products in Alderney calls for backup supplies from Jersey

Tuesday 04 August 2015

Waitrose Jersey branches are sending extra supplies to Alderney to keep up with the high demand.

The partnership introduced a wide range of Waitrose products in two Alderney Stores, The Alderney Farm Shop and Jean’s Stores, which are both run by local dairy farmer Michael Cox and his family. Sales exceeded all expectations in the first four days and more supplies are needed to replenish the stock.

Alderney receives one delivery a week from Poole in the UK and with the recent surge in sales, Waitrose are hoping to establish a second route through Guernsey to keep on top of demand in Alderney .

In the meantime Waitrose products are being shipped to Alderney from the partnership’s Jersey stores.

Catriona Mann, Department Manager Retail at Waitrose Jersey branch said: “Alderney has had a fantastic start with Waitrose products selling out in just over a week.

“The supplies that we are sending over will ensure that customers in both stores can continue to shop from the large variety of both food and drink that Waitrose is now supplying to the island.”

Michael Bourke, Business to Business Development Manager at Waitrose said: Our Jersey branches must be praised for their tireless work in ensuring stock was ready to sail to Alderney and on the shelves by Friday evening.

“It's been an incredible start to our partnership with the Cox family and we look forward to it continuing."
