The ever-popular Christmas ice rink will be returning to Fort Regent this year, thanks to sponsorship from Sure and the hard work of everyone at Ice Skate Jersey.
Now in its sixth year, Ice Skate Jersey’s Christmas ice rink is returning to give Jersey’s thousands of skaters the opportunity to take a break from the pressures of Christmas and enjoy skating on Jersey’s biggest ever skating rink, which is coming back to the Queen’s Hall at Fort Regent.
“Fort Regent is a fantastic venue for our ice rink,” said Keith Halstead of Ice Skate Jersey. “The Queen’s Hall gives us enough space to offer a range of activities for islanders to enjoy, as well as to host a rink of 800 m2 that also includes a children’s rink with penguin and snowman training aids.”
As well as the two ice rinks, Ice Skate Jersey will host a Snow Zone play area for toddlers and young children aged between 18 months and 4 years old. The zone is a safe area for young children to play whilst their older siblings take on the challenge of learning to skate.
Learning and improving skating skills are important parts of the skating experience and this year, Sure and Ice Skate Jersey are delighted to welcome back Nicky Mack-Rose as the resident professional coach. Nicky is a registered National Ice Skating Association coach from Streatham Ice Arena in London and is well known to local skaters who have benefitted hugely from her tuition.
“Our aim is to create an all-round skating experience at Ice Skate Jersey,” said Keith Halstead. “Both the Snow Zone and professional tuition from Nicky are an important part of that as they help the whole family get involved. Whether it is one-to one tuition, finding something to eat at the Ice Café or providing something for younger children to do, everyone is able to get involved.”
In addition to providing skating facilities, Ice Skate Jersey are continuing the Schools Skate Initiative which is now in its sixth year. This provides lower rates for schools, enabling them to offer ice skating as an extra-curricular activity during the last weeks of term.
Ice hockey will also be returning with junior hockey sessions being played on Sunday morning and senior sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
“We are really proud to help Ice Skate Jersey bring the Christmas ice rink,” said Lisa Mclauchlan, Head of Commercial Operations at Sure Jersey.
“We know how Islanders value the opportunity to skate at Christmas and every year, Ice Skate Jersey delivers an even better skating experience than the year before. I’m sure that this will be the best year ever and will see many thousands of people heading to Fort Regent to enjoy the fun and thrills that ice skating offers.”
