A new independent think tank has appointed Gailina Liew as Director.
The Jersey Policy Forum is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, governed by a committee comprising representatives of business, the third sector, education and public administration. It has been set up to commission and deliver non-partisan research and analysis on questions affecting Islanders.
The forum is not associated with any politicians or with the government - they say that their purpose is to be an independent, credible resource that informs and elevates the policy agenda in Jersey.
Mrs Lieu is an independent board director, entrepreneur, lawyer and retired listed company executive. Since arriving in Jersey last year, she has already become fully involved in Island life, being appointed to the Jersey Appointments Commission and the Board of Digital Jersey.
The Chair of the Jersey Policy Forum, Jonathan White, said: "By providing independent research that consults those directly affected by policies, we aim to play a dynamic and essential role in the policy making process in Jersey.
"Up to now there hasn’t been a dedicated public policy research centre in Jersey and, especially in the absence of a party-based political system, we feel that such a resource will make a significant positive impact on the quality of policy making in Jersey. In time, our aim is to become a credible voice on topical issues for island micro-states more broadly. We look forward to improving the lives of islanders with our work.
"We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gailina Liew as Director. Although a recent arrival in the Island she has already immersed herself in Island life and will bring huge experience and an open mind to helping to address the main issues that the Island faces.”
