Jersey Retail Association launches

Tuesday 06 February 2018

A Jersey Retail Association (JRA), set up as an industry body to solely represent retailers across the island is launching tonight.

The JRA is inviting all retailers for an informal launch party at the St. Helier Town Hall between 18:00 and 20:00.

The JRA aims to create an island-wide support system for the hundreds of retailers across Jersey, with a focus on addressing the practical issues facing the sector.

The Association was established with the support of a £100k grant from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture (EDTSC) and will be appointing a Chief Executive to drive the development of the organisation and provide practical hands-on support to members.

David Elliott, Business Development Director at Voisins and John Marquis, Store Director at De Gruchy are the driving forces behind the establishment of the JRA.

Speaking about the launch of the Association David Elliott said: "The support of the Senator Farnham and EDTSC will enable us to build and develop the retail industry across the island, ensuring that we continue to have a vibrant offering for islanders and play our part in supporting the tourism sector.

"Retailers have not had an industry body solely focused on giving them practical support until now and we are looking forward to bringing together all our retailing talent to share best practice and address common issues. Any retailer with an interest in driving the industry and the association forward is welcome to come to our launch event on 6 February, hear about the benefits of membership and get involved."

John Marquis commented on the progress made so far saying: "The retail and wholesale sector in Jersey consists of over 1000 businesses and employs over 7600 people. The JRA is already working closely with partners including the Chamber of Commerce, Visit Jersey and the Consumer Council to address the issues affecting the industry to ensure this vital sector continues to develop and grow."
