JobsFest back next month

Thursday 15 September 2016

It’s helped Islanders find work over the last few years and now JobsFest is back.

JobsFest starts again next month helping to sort out short-term employment for more locally-qualified Islanders who’ve been hunting for work all year and are struggling at a time when there are fewer jobs around.

They’ll get to go back to work for an eight-week stint with their wages and contributions paid for by the States - good news for bosses who will save over £2,000 while they train up their new recruits.

Last year over 50 new roles were filled and over 65% of those people were kept on by their bosses at the end of the eight weeks.

This year it runs from Monday 3 October until Sunday 27 November with a job match event next Wednesday at Radisson Blu Hotel when bosses can meet the candidates.

Social Security Assistant Minister Graham Truscott said: “We understand that it takes time to train and develop new staff, and that’s one of the main reasons we’ve had a lot of success over the last three years with the JobsFest model. We know that offering employers a short-term wage incentive gives them the confidence to hire someone that they might not otherwise have considered, and we are encouraging employers to engage with Back to Work in the same way again this year. The job match event is a great opportunity for employers to meet candidates quickly and easily, and I hope that they take advantage of it.”

Potential recruits will be getting a JobsFest diary listing events happening from Tuesday 4 October to Thursday 27 October including talks about working in finance, construction, retail, care and hospitality and workshops designed to help them improve their CVs and interview skills and build confidence.

Employers wishing to take part and book onto the Job Match event on 21 September can call e-mail Back to Work Recruitment here.
