The former Data Commissioner for Jersey and Guernsey has taken on a new role at a firm specialising in employment-related matters in the Channel Islands.

Law at Work has appointed Emma Martins as a specialist data advisor to lead its new service.

She will advise businesses on data protection, privacy, and ethics, mainly working with board-level executives.

Ms Martins has served as Guernsey’s Data Protection Commissioner since 2018 and had previously been the Commissioner in Jersey and Guernsey when the islands merged the role.

Kelly Flageul, the Group Chair at Law at Work, said: “Having known Emma for many years in a professional capacity, I am delighted that she has agreed to join the Law At Work team and launch this new service in our 20th year.

“Emma is highly regarded on the world stage. Her moral compass, integrity and commitment to making data matter will strengthen our team and offer our clients a valuable solution.

“She knows and understands the law and how it should be applied in both islands, so we’re confident she will be able to guide our clients and coach and mentor their people to navigate these important and sometimes challenging situations.”

Law At Work is an employment, human resources, and health and safety specialist based in the Channel Islands that was set up in 2004 to provide a single point of reference for all employment-related matters.
