Marshalls needed for Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon

Thursday 24 September 2015

This year celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon and the Island community is being called upon to ensure a safe and successful event is held in just under two weeks.

With some 2,000 runners competing in the Marathon and Relay Race, hundreds of which are from off-Island, the importance of course marshals cannot be exaggerated enough; they ensure that runners safely navigate our beautiful Island.

Organisers are urgently seeking a hundred course marshals for the race on Sunday 4 October, as this fundraising event could not take place without the valuable support of the volunteer marshals who so kindly give up their time each year.

Ensuring the safety of both runners and spectators alike, volunteer marshals are stationed all over the course, with transportation provided from St Helier to drop each marshal at their designated point. Getting behind the Jersey Marathon in this manner also provides a great opportunity of soaking up the atmosphere of one of the largest community events Jersey’s sporting calendar has to offer. As a thank you for supporting the Marathon and official charities, volunteer course marshals are also given a limited edition volunteer t-shirt and refreshments throughout the day.

Ian Le Gallais, Marshal Manager, said: "Every year we call on the support of Islanders to help us and we’re so grateful to everyone who gives their time on the day. It’s a great experience to get involved in and help support the Marathon, which raises valuable funds for local charities. I truly hope that Islanders will come forward and lend their support to be part of the great community spirit on Race Day!”
