Mourant trainee qualifies through new solicitor programme

Friday 05 July 2024

A local trainee has successfully qualified as a solicitor under Mourant's new training programme.

Roxanna Lackschewitz-Martin is set to remain with the firm in Jersey as an associate after finishing her two-year Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).

In Mourant's Guernsey branch, Katie Flynn and Ronan Granville also successfully qualified through the scheme.

The new structured training programme aims to attract local legal talent and comprises a two-year fixed term contract with the company.

During this period, trainees complete three eight-month rotations across various legal practice areas, gaining practical experience whilst they study for their exams.

Mourant's SQE training aims to support a more diverse range of people from less well-represented socio-economic backgrounds, who may find themselves negatively impacted by the costs of the traditional route into law.

Since they implemented the training scheme in 2022, the firm has seen eight lawyers qualify and currently has 11 others in training.

Mourant's Jersey Managing Partner, Dan Birtwhistle said: "Roxy's dedication and hard work have led to this well-deserved achievement, and we wish her every success in this next phase of her career in our Jersey Litigation team."

The firm is currently recruiting trainees for its September 2025 and 2026 intakes.
