New director at Camerons

Wednesday 18 March 2015

Camerons has appointed a new director to the board who brings over 25 years’ experience working in the UK and Jersey.

Rob Mills, who has been with Camerons for six years as a senior estimator, joins the board as procurement director. In his new role, Mr Mills will manage and oversee the entire estimating process, including building relationships with material and plant suppliers and establishing key contacts with sub-contractors. He will also offer pre-construction advice to clients, architects and structural engineers and research new methods of construction and procurement.

"Having worked all over the UK, Rob has extensive experience in the building industry and has been a great asset to the Camerons team over the last six years. He has demonstrated that he share’s the company’s commitment to the highest level of professionalism and consistent commitment to offering the best value for money without compromising on quality or the ability to finish a project on time," said Marc Burton, Managing Director of Camerons.

"I welcome him to the board of directors and am sure he will continue to provide a first class service overseeing the estimating process on our varied projects across the island, which are often the most interesting and technically challenging developments being undertaken at any one time."

Mr Mills said that despite many changes in the last six years, the construction market in Jersey remained extremely competitive.

"At Camerons we are constantly trying to improve but there is never a time when we can rest on our laurels. The greatest challenge is trying to constantly improve the way we procure work, getting away from the traditional contractual approach and partnering with our supply chain," he said.

"We have recently experienced one of the most difficult trading periods in recent history and I am now looking forward to the challenge of working during the predicted upturn in the construction market, as projects come on line which have been in the planning stage for many years."

Mr Mills (44) joined Camerons six years ago after working in quantity surveying and commercial management for several large UK building firms, including Dandara, Balfour Beatty and Sir Robert McAlpine.

He has a degree in quantity surveying, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building and vice chairman of the Jersey branch.

In his spare time, Mr Mills, who is married with one daughter, enjoys scuba diving and travelling.
