New financial services regulators' qualification launches

Thursday 01 November 2018

One of the island's largest professional training providers has launched a new financial services regulation qualification in partnership with ICSA.

BPP is now offering the International Certificate in Financial Services Regulation (ICFSR), which is aimed at individuals working or aspiring to work in financial services and hoping to specialise in regulation.

The Level 3 Certificate was designed in recognition of the challenges faced by regulators of financial services businesses. Since the global financial crisis, they have been under more pressure than ever to ensure that their staff understand the risks facing them in the effective supervision of financial services.

It launched in September in Jersey with an inaugural cohort from the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC). They are due to complete it in June 2019.

Simon Osborne, ICSA Chief Executive, said that the qualification would serve as a "hallmark of expertise that will benefit both employees and employers alike.”

BPP Managing Director Natalie Dimond commented that the certificate will "enable professional supervisors to demonstrate their seriousness in their pursuit of the highest standard of professional oversight, whilst allowing jurisdictions to set themselves apart as being sincere in their desire for an appropriately regulated financial services industry."

"Jersey is once again leading the way in regulatory excellence and we have a number of other jurisdictions looking to undertake the programme in the very near future," she added.

Robert Le Corre, Chairman of ICSA Jersey Branch, said: “The importance of financial services regulation has increased significantly over recent years so a qualification of this nature was much needed. The fact that it has been accredited by ICSA underlines the strong commitment that the institute has to supporting professionals working in all areas of the international financial services industry.”
